Beverly Glen defines the eastern boundary of Bel Air and encompasses a wooded canyon that runs north of Sunset Blvd to the crest of the Santa Monica Mountains at Mulholland Drive. This page covers homes flanking both sides of Beverly Glen Blvd north of the original East Gate Bel Air tract that do not fall under the umbrella of a homeowners association.
Homes in the canyon have been continuously built and rebuilt over the last century. Architectural styles run the gamut and size varies significantly. Modest one bedroom cottages dot the canyon and provide an alternative to condominium ownership at a relatively affordable price point. Most larger single family homes offer a Bel Air address for between one and two million dollars. Due to steep hillside topography, decks are more common than yards and lot sizes are often significantly larger than the usuable building pad. Swimming pools are few and far between.
The location is convenient for commuters as Beverly Glen Blvd traverses the mountains from West L.A. to Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley. The cost of this convenience is the heavy congestion that comes during peak travel hours. When buying a home in this area, parking can be an important consideration depending on location.
The northern end of Beverly Glen is anchored by Glen Centre with a few shops, restaurants, and a Saturday farmer's market. To the south, Beverly Glen Blvd continues past Sunset and connects residents to Westwood and Beverly Hills. For outdoor enthusiasts, a network of trails can be enjoyed around the Stone Canyon Reservoir to the west of the community.
Homeowners can elect to join Residents of Beverly Glen Association, which oversees a community center and social events, and occassionally organizes to take on zoning or traffic issues that impact the canyon. Membership is optional and ranges from $25-$100. For more information please visit their website.
